An Artistic and Practical Initiative
The Sanctuary Doors project is an artistic and practical initiative of the Artists of the Third Temple, seeking to advance real preparations toward the building of the Third Temple.
The project is not concerned with reconstructing the doors of the past alone, but with developing, planning and preparing models and practical proposals for the future Sanctuary doors – out of the belief that the Third Temple is destined to be built by human hands, as emerges from the words of the Rambam (Maimonides).
A Gateway, Not Just a Component
The Sanctuary doors are not merely an architectural component; they are the gateway of passage to the holiest place in the Temple. Their design therefore demands a combination of beauty, honor, artistry, precision, and deep thought about their spiritual meaning.
Study, Planning and Craft
Within the project, a comprehensive study is being conducted of the sources dealing with the Sanctuary doors – their measurements, their structure, their ornamentation, and their place in the architectural whole of the Temple.
The work combines Torah research, architectural planning, fine craftsmanship and model development, aiming to examine how doors worthy of the House of God can be created – faithful to the sources, with an eye to the needs of the future building.
Part of a Broader Effort
The project is part of a wider effort of public preparations for the building of the Temple, like the preparations made in the days of King David toward the First Temple.
We believe that engaging with the details of the Temple – even through creation, planning and preparation – connects hearts to the vision and gives it real expression in the world of action.
The Sanctuary Doors project seeks to illuminate the beauty of the future Temple, to inspire the public, and to invite creators, craftspeople and supporters to take part in preparing the vessels and the knowledge needed toward the building of the Third Temple, speedily in our days.
